I recently watched a video on YouTube with a few eyebrow hacks and I thought I’d give them a try. The video I watched can be found here. One of the hacks was for eyebrow tinting at home. I have very light eyebrow hairs to the point where it doesn’t match my hair colour and it looks like I don’t have eyebrows at all. The hack involved coconut oil and Just For Men Mustache and Beard. Unlike women’s hair colour boxes, Just For Men allows you to squeeze out small amounts of dye and mix it together in equal parts without having to use it all and throw it out after the first application, so you get multiple uses out of this product. The first step is to groom your brows into the shape you want and then apply coconut oil to the skin around your brows, avoiding the brow hairs so the colour sits well, and then following the directions on the box and applying the dye with the small brush that comes in the box and waiting 5 minutes before removing it with a damp cloth and a small amount of shampoo.
Things I learned AFTER doing this hack that you should know before trying it:
- The colour I purchased (Dark Brown) was a lot darker than it looked on the box and I definitely should have gotten a shade or two lighter than that.
- The coconut oil doesn’t completely protect the skin from the dye so I should have been neater when applying the dye.
- Leaving the dye on for 5 minutes like the box says is probably too long and I might try 3-4 minutes instead next time.
- Don’t be scared when you first do it because the dye is still on the skin beneath your brow hairs so it looks shockingly dark when you first start to wipe it off but once you finally get it off the skin it looks a lot better.
My final thoughts on this hack and if it’s worth a try:
Would I tint my eyebrows at home again? ABSOLUTELY! I have control issues and for stuff that involves my face I like to do it myself and this hack is a great at home DIY that isn’t too difficult and if you learn from the mistakes I made the first time I tried it then you won’t have any problems. I spent under $15 for this box of dye at my local Shoppers Drug Mart and it will probably last me months, whereas, an eyebrow tint in a salon would cost $10-$15 for one application. This hack is definitely a money-saver and super easy and quick, now that I know what works and what doesn’t.
I hope this DIY eyebrow tint hack is useful and let me know in the comments if you’ve tried this before and if you plan on trying it in the future.
