Monthly Favourites Product Reviews

February 2017 Favourites

March 7, 2017

I haven’t had the opportunity to wear a lot of makeup recently or try a lot of new products because I am currently on a “makeup no buy” in preparation for my vacation in May! The following products are just a few products I have been using on the days I’m able to wear makeup plus a few skincare items.

Koko Lashes – Misha

IMG_8113These lashes look super natural when they are on and make your eyes really pop. Besides the Queen B lashes the Misha lashes are my next favourite. I use these lashes on days I want to make my makeup stand out but I’m not doing a full dramatic look. I purchase my lashes from the Lady Moss Boutique website which you can find here.

Wet N Wild – Photofocus Foundation in Rose Ivory

IMG_8110I was lucky enough to go to an event with Wet N Wild in Toronto and received a lot of their new products. On the Wet N Wild website they claim that the foundation:

  • Featuring No Flashback Technology and a light-adjusting
complex that delivers a flawless matte finish
  • Microsphere Powder Blend features a composite
of spherical powders of unique sizes, which yields
a multi-dimensional shape that helps to diffuse light
  • Lightweight foundation made of a crosspolymer film-forming
agent which allows for elegant texture on skin while silica,
which features absorbent and thickening properties, helps
provide soft, full to medium buildable coverage
  • Blended silicone provides a blurring, soft focus effect
while matte mica helps minimize light reflection
  • Available in 20 Oil-Free, Paraben-Free, Sulfate-Free
    and Fragrance-Free shades

I loved a lot of the products I received but the Photofocus Foundation in Rose Ivory was a huge HIT for me! You can see this foundation in action in my video here:

Wet N Wild is expanding their reach to Canadians and should be more available soon! In the meantime you can find this foundation online here.

MyChelle Dermaceuticals – Daily Defense Cream SPF 17

IMG_8111I received some new products from MyChelle Beauty which are launching in March. This daily moisturizer is one of the best I have ever tried. It is super gentle on my sensitive skin and it has an SPF 17 which is fantastic for protecting my face from UV rays. I’ve used this product everyday since I received it and I am extremely impressed with it! On the MyChelle website this product is described:

Daily Defense Cream combines all-day, moisture-quenching hydration and nourishing bioactives, including Astaxanthin, with Zinc Oxide to protect against free radicals and help prevent premature aging in one, easy step.

Made without GMO, Gluten, Parabens, Petroleum, Phthalates, Sulfates, Ureas, Artificial Fragrances, and Artificial Colors. Vegan. Cruelty-free.

I love how natural their products are and they are one of the few skin care brands that don’t make my skin react negatively. I have received MyChelle Dermaceuticals products in the past, to see my review on their other products click here.

You can find this product on the MyChelle Dermaceuticals website here.

Nip + Fab – Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme

IMG_8112I’ve been using these peel pads a few times a week and it has definitely evened out my skin tone and texture. On the Nip + Fab website they state:

The pads are soaked in:
5% glycolic acid:
gently exfoliates the skin and helps fade discolouration on the face e.g. acne scarring, pigmentation

salicylic acid: penetrates into and unclogs pores helping to combat black heads and reduce blemishes
lactic acid: removes dead cells and toxins from the skin for a smoother and more even toned surface
hyaluronic acid: improves skin hydration and keeps skin feeling soft and plump

I purchased this product from Shoppers Drug Mart for I believe around $12-$15 CAD. I highly recommend this if your skin is sensitive to physical and abrasive exfoliators like mine is, 10/10 would purchase again! If you would like to purchase this product online you can find it here.

Acure Organics – Morrocan Argan Oil

IMG_8114I’ve been applying this product at night after using the Nip + Fab peel pads. The pads help to prepare my skin to really absorb all the good ingredients from the oil and my bare skin has never been this glowy and hydrated in my life. The Acure Organics website states:

A true skin super food! Incredibly rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and proteins, argan oil helps restore the appearance of texture and tone. Use it as a: facial serum, body + decollete massage oil, hair serum, hand + cuticle oil, soothes dry elbows + heels. Lightweight and easily absorbed, you can allow the soothing blend of rose geranium + lemongrass to soothe the senses and calm the mind.

I love using oils as nightly moisturizers because it allows them to really sink into the skin all night long and I wake up with really hydrated and fresh skin every morning.A few oils I’ve tried have been good but this oil smells the best out of all the ones I’ve tried and scent is a big factor for me. This product can be purchased online here.

Aaah I still haven’t tried the Acure oil! But I need that moisture in my life with how bad the weather has been, so tonight shall be the night! I love the MyChelle products that I have so this sounds intriguing! Maybe when I go to purchase some of my faves I’ll check this out!

I’m curious about the Nip+Fab pads — but I have bad luck with drying every time I try similar products.

I have really sensitive skin and it’s been great for me! I only use it a few times a week though and not every day

  • Reply Janine March 12, 2017 at 8:48 pm

I also love the MyChelle moisturizer and the Acure oil. Dying to get my hands on the foundation too!

I tried an acne treatment fro the MyChelle line a year or two ago and it did nothing for me. Skincare is so temperamental! Great post!

I’ve been curious about those Nip + Fab pads, I’m a bit sensitive to hyper-intense toners and whatnot, how harsh do you find it on your skin?

    • Reply Katelyn March 13, 2017 at 5:36 am

I don’t find it harsh at all. I have really sensitive skin and I find it less harsh than an abrasive exfoliator. I don’t use it everyday though. I use it 3 times a week.

I currently use the Nip&Fab daily glycolic fix, but I’m nearly done. I think I will pick up the night pads next!
