January 2016 Favourites

February 9, 2016

I had the opportunity to try a lot of new products this month and the few that stuck out to me were the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer in R20, Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer, Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Chocolate, and the Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette.

Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Concealer in R20

The new Make Up For Ever Ultra HD concealer has been a game changer for me. Because of my dry skin, I need something hydrating under my eyes and won’t look cakey. I have tried a few high-end concealers and a few drugstore concealers but this concealer colour corrects, brightens and hydrates all at once. I love the packaging this concealer comes in and I am able to squeeze out the perfect amount. Although it comes in a small tube, a little goes a very long way. One tip for this product would be to use less than you think you need at first because if you use too much product it will turn into a hot mess real quick. MUFE says that the “R” based concealers are for colour correcting and you should layer a “Y” based concealer on top of that for brightening but unless you have a majorly dark circle that needs to be covered then I find that extra step completely unnecessary. One concealer is more than enough, you don’t need two!

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer

I like to layer my primers to meet my skin’s needs before applying my foundation and going for a full coverage look. If I want flawless, smooth skin regardless of going for a full coverage look or not I will apply my MUFE Smoothing Primer and then my foundation or tinted moisturizer and it makes my skin look so flawless even on my “no makeup, makeup” days. The consistency of this primer is similar to the Benefit Porefessional primer but I find the MUFE primer is a little lighter and smells nicer.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood

I have tested out a few brands of liquid lipsticks but find that most of them dry out my already dry lips and make them crack and peel after a few hours of wear. I like the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks as well but find them a bit more drying than the ABH liquid lipsticks. I tested out the longevity of this lippie on a day I was at school from 8 am – 5 pm. During this day, I ate and drank but did not have to reapply at any point in the day. That deserves an A+ if you ask me! By the end of the day, my lips were a bit sore and dry but that’s understandable, it’s a good lippie but it’s not magic. Another way I love to wear this lippie, other than on its own, is to pair it with MAC’s whirl lip liner and fill in my entire lip before applying it. By filling in my entire lip first, I find it gives my lippie something better to stick to and makes it stay better.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer

I have been ride or die for the ABH brow wiz but have also liked the ABH dip brow as well for over a year now and when I found out they were coming out with a new brow product I was incredibly excited because ABH slays the game with their brow products. The ABH brow definer cut the time it takes for me to do my brows in half. The appearance of my brows looks more natural and feathery but it helps to have brows that already pretty naturally defined. I get my brows waxed and dyed to match my hair colour and I have decently sparse brows and I love the brow definer but I have to use a light hand to avoid making them look too chunky and like I obviously drew them on. I am considering making a switch back to the brow wiz until I get my brows to a natural thickness I like them in, but I will probably wait until I run out of my brow definer.

Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette

I use my KVD contour palette to set my under eye concealer with the lightest shade and use the middle bronzer shade to contour and bronze my face. I love the texture and consistency of the powders and find them perfect for my dry skin. They don’t make my face look cakey or powdery and the bronzer colour blends out beautifully to look like your skin has a gorgeous natural definition.
